Course Overview
With the prevalence of obesity and diabetes mellitus increasing among an already
aging population, the challenges facing clinicians involved in the diagnosis and
management of peripheral vascular disorders are becoming overwhelming. Education
comes in many different forms: from reading medical literature in print or electronically;
to participating in web-based symposia; to local, regional, and national conferences;
to live-demonstration courses. However one learns, it is clear that education is
critical to improving the management of complex peripheral vascular diseases. Despite
the convenience of web-based seminars, it is clear that human interaction between
participants and experts in a comprehensive venue, providing unique and intimate
educational portals is still the basis for superior continuing medical education.
Vascular InterVentional Advances, VIVA™, has defined excellence in professional
education in the field of vascular medicine and intervention. What has made VIVA™
the vascular course has been a desire to teach…not just offer “show and tell”. VIVA™
2008 will build on prior achievements by expanding the integration of all specialties
involved in the care of patients with vascular disease: vascular surgery, interventional
cardiology, vascular medicine, interventional radiology, neuroradiology, neurosurgery,
and cardiothoracic surgery. A nationally recognized group of experts will engage
attendees in discussions of the hottest topics spanning the field of vascular medicine
and intervention. Our faculty will critically review current practice patterns,
explore evolution of the field, and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of key
publications. In 2007, VIVA™ introduced VIVA Dialogs, intimate sessions limited
to 35 participants diving into specific topics in greater detail that can be covered
during any large symposium. In 2008, VIVA introduces VIVA Chalk Talks, parallel sessions
specifically evaluating technical components of vascular therapy with limited faculty
and attendees.

Target Audience
VIVA™ 08 has been specifically designed for physicians and allied health professionals interested in the management of patients with vascular disease, including physicians who specialize in, among other areas, interventional cardiology, interventional radiology, vascular medicine, vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery and neuroradiology as well as fellows, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician’s assistants.
